ONTARIO BREEDING BIRD ATLAS: YEAR 4 KICKOFF EVENT IN TIMMINS (Region 41)

DATE: Sunday, June 2nd, 2024                TIME: 7:30 am to around noon

LOCATION:  We meet on the west side of the Canadian Tire parking lot.

DESCRIPTION:
Join the regional coordinators for a morning of atlassing as we kick off the 4th year of the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas project in the Timmins area. Get hands-on practice submitting general observations, doing point counts (including with digital recording units) and help us fill coverage gaps while having fun. All skill levels are welcome.

WHAT IS THE ONTARIO BREEDING BIRD ATLAS?
It is a 5-year, multi-partner project, whose goal is to map all the breeding bird species in the province, evaluate populations changes, and better inform conservation and species at risk initiatives. Most of the data are collected by dedicated volunteers. We are entering the 4th year of the 3rd Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas (Atlas 3: 2021-2025) and getting sufficient data in northern Ontario is crucial to evaluate if bird populations have changed since Atlas 1 (1981-1985) and Atlas 2 (2001-2005).

NOTE: To learn how to easily submit your bird observations to the project, make sure you are registered on the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas website in Region 41 (Timiskaming) and download the easy to use NatureCounts data entry App before the event (Available for iPhone and Androids)

Registration: To confirm your attendance or obtain more details, contact Regional Coordinators Pierre Noel and Roxane Filion at timiskaming@birdsontario.org or timminsbirds@gmail.com

NOTE: more spring bird walks will be added here shortly.
